OPEN SPACE TASK FORCE
Minutes of the Meeting
January 4, 2010
Attendance: Pat Botteron, Sue Larsen, Roy Normen, Marcia Banach, Viney Wilson, Herb Asplund, Louise Evans, Betty Warren, Karl Reichle
Chairman Pat Botteron called the meeting to order at 5:35 pm.
Public Participation
NONE
Acceptance of Minutes
Minutes of the October meeting were accepted as amended to correct the spelling of Viney Wilson’s name and to clarify a statement by Roy Normen.
New Business
Pat Botteron reported no property updates. Marcia Banach said the Nelson property is still in appraisal.
Pat Botteron asked if there were any goals we should set for 2010. The first goal should be to get closure on the properties currently under consideration. A second goal would be to develop educational programs for the Town Council, Land owners, Real Estate agents and the public. Marcia suggested we team up with SWALPAC. Pat said we should do a presentation to the Chamber of Commerce on the value of open space. She will talk to Betty Osborne about this.
Louise Evans reported that the Hartford Audubon wants to sell the house on the Niederwerfer property because it is difficult to find a renter to take care of the property. It was suggested to talk to the Land Trust (Tim Shepard) or give the land back to the family. The Priest House will be evaluated as a Historical House but the house is in disrepair.
Before we present the Master Plan to the Town Council, we should notify new property owners.
Marcia will ask Jeff Folger if he would send out a thank you proclamation on our behalf to the Eagle Scouts working on Open Space.
Old Business
There was more discussion on moving the sign on the Wapping Park property.
The rating sheets were redone by Marcia. She will send them out again in case not everyone received it.
The maps for Wapping Park are being redone. More signs for the trails are being added.
A review of the Master Plan was done. Several members passed on to Marcia changes and correction. Marcia handed out new maps for the plan. If possible the titles will be moved to the right side. Target properties will be changed to priority properties.
Other Business
Our next meeting will be February 1st.
